| The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 extends, amends and expands the tax credit for energy-efficient improvements, such as garage doors in existing homes for 2009 and 2010. The maximum amount of credit for all improvements combined is $1500 over the lifetime of the tax credit period (2009 and 2010). |

| What qualifies a garage door for this tax credit? |
Residential garage doors that have a U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of equal to or less than 0.30 qualify for this tax credit. Additional requirements are:
• The garage door must be installed on an insulated garage (insulated walls).
• The garage door must be part of the customer’s principal residence.
• The garage door perimeter must have a means to control air infiltration.
• The garage door must be installed in the years 2009 or 2010.
• The garage door must be expected to remain in service for at least five years. |

| Under this policy, how much credit may a homeowner receive? |
| Taxpayers receive a tax credit of 30% of the qualified energy-efficiency improvements installed during 2009 or 2010, up to $1500. In other words, you stand to receive a tax credit equal to almost one third of the purchase price of your new garage door(s). Cost of installation does not qualify. |

| What does a homeowner need to do to obtain the tax credit if the garage door meets all the qualifications? |
| NGD will provide the homeowner with a Manufacturer Certification Statement or it may downloaded from this website. The homeowner will also need NGD's Invoice which will be provided when the insulated garage doors are installed. Copies of each should be kept as records, but do not need to be submitted with your federal tax return. |
